Dr. Storey at the City Heath Centers' 50th anniversary celebration in 2019.

With deep sadness, the City of Philadelphia and its Department of Public Health announce the passing of Dr. Thomas Storey, who was a dedicated public health servant for over 30 years.

Dr. Storey could have chosen to spend his career as a renowned academic specialist, but instead he chose to dedicate it to the people with the greatest need. He served patients in our Health Centers for more than 30 years, first as a clinic physician, then later as Clinical Director for Health Center 4, as Medical Director for Ambulatory Health Services (AHS), and most recently as Director for AHS. During this period, many public health agencies around the country abandoned primary care services. But under Dr. Storey’s leadership, the City’s Health Centers have thrived. They are now HRSA-designated Federally-Qualified Health Centers, providing comprehensive primary care to the City’s most vulnerable people, with quality that is second to none. Many thousands of people in Philadelphia—even those who may not have known his name—received first-class medical care because of his efforts.

Dr. Storey’s family has asked that donations in his memory be made to the Dr. Thomas Storey Memorial Fund. Donations will benefit the City of Philadelphia’s Health Centers.
